Every month the grade three students in room 7 walk down to Fred Douglas Lodge to spend some time with their Senior Buddies. In October the students prepared three Hallowe’en songs to sing and wore their costumes to entertain the seniors. This month the children brought three books with them to read to their buddies. Both the children and the seniors had a wonderful time getting to know each other. Several seniors offered their opinions on having the children visit.
Rose Mattes:
It’s wonderful that they are here. It’s good for them to be here to think and learn things and have grown ups around them. I love having the children here. They love to read and I love to listen.
Joan, Linda, and Francesca said they like having the children coming to visit. It was nice to listen to Logan and Vercheil read their stories. It’s nice to have kids around and they are well behaved.
Armanda says fabulous. She said Casey is a good reader and she enjoyed talking with her about the book. Armanda told Casey about some of her own personal camping experiences.
Maria thought it was a good idea to bring the children to Fred Douglas. She said Tyrell is a very nice boy and she enjoyed listening to him read to her. Maria would really like them to come back.
Neil said he really enjoyed the time he spent with Reggie and Dylan. He looks forward to them coming again.
The children really enjoyed their visit and meeting their senior buddies and sharing stories, cookies, and juice. There were more than a few hugs exchanged when it came time to say good-bye.
The students have been invited for lunch on December 18th. After lunch they will entertain the seniors by singing Christmas Carols.
