Construction on Stanley Knowles School began in 1987; the school was built as a two storey with an attached daycare facility. The school included eight regular classrooms, administrative area, multipurpose room, clothing lab, drafting shop, woodworking shop, kindergarten classrooms, guidance area, library, seminar room, science lab, gymnasium and ancillary spaces.
When the school held its official opening on Oct. 25, 1988, one of the honoured guests was Stanley Knowles himself. It is a rare occasion for a building to be named after a person during their lifetime—and the longtime Member of Parliament was thrilled with honour. The school has grown with the young population in its catchment area. Eleven pre-designed classrooms were added in 1989 with a further three portable classrooms added in 1990.
