Grant for Students from Low-income Families

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: $250 per month of study for up to $3,000 per academic year (August 1 to July 31).

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Since grant amounts are fixed, the amount you receive may exceed your assessed need.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are from a low-income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program (see website for details)
  • are enrolled in a full-time in a multi-year program that is at least two years in duration (minimum 60 weeks) at a designated post-secondary institution

What will I have to do?

• Apply for a Canada Student Loan through Manitoba Student Aid – that’s it!

Your eligibility for the grant is assessed automatically when you apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan through your province or territory of permanent residence.

Grant for Students from Middle-income Families

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: $100 per month of study for up to $1,200 per academic year (August 1 to July 31).

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Since grant amounts are fixed, the amount you receive may exceed your assessed need.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are from a middle -income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program (see website for details)
  • are enrolled in a full-time in a multi-year program that is at least two years in duration (minimum 60 weeks) at a designated post-secondary institution

What will I have to do?

• Apply for a Canada Student Loan through Manitoba Student Aid – that’s it!

Grant for Students with Dependants

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: $200 per month of study, per dependant child.

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Since grant amounts are fixed, the amount you receive may exceed your assessed need.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are from a low-income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program (see website for details)
  • are enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program (minimum 12 weeks within a period of 15 consecutive weeks) at a designated post-secondary institution
  • have a dependant who will be under 12 years of age at the beginning of the study period.  Important: Exceptions can be made for low-income students with dependants 12 years of age or older who have a disability

Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: $2,000 per academic year (August 1 to July 31).

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. Since grant amounts are fixed, the amount you receive may exceed your assessed need:

  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • meet the criteria for students with permanent disabilities (see website for details)
  • include one of the following with your loan application as proof of your disability: a medical certificate, a psycho-educational assessment, or documentation proving receipt of federal or provincial disability assistance
  • are enrolled in a full-time or part-time program (minimum 32 weeks) at a designated post-secondary institution

Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Disabilities

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: Up to $8,000 per academic year (August 1 to July 31).

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The assistance provided under this grant is determined independently of your assessed need.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are enrolled in a full-time or part-time program at a designated post-secondary institution
  • meet the criteria for students with permanent disabilities (see website for details), and can provide with your loan application, proof of your disability in the form of a medical certificate, a psycho-educational assessment, or documentation proving receipt of federal or provincial disability assistance, as outlined in the Canada Student Financial Assistance Regulations (CSFAR).
  • provide written confirmation that you need exceptional education-related services or equipment from a person qualified to determine such need
  • show in writing the exact cost of the equipment and services

Grant for Part-Time Students with Dependants

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: A maximum of $40 per week of study if you have one or two dependants; A maximum of $60 per week of study if you have three or more dependants; or A maximum of $1,920 per academic year.

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The amount provided under this grant will not exceed your assessed need.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are from a low-income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program (see website for details)
  • are enrolled in a part-time program of at least 12 weeks duration within a period of 15 consecutive weeks at a designated post-secondary institution
  • have a dependant who will be under 12 years of age at the beginning of the study period.  Important: Exceptions can be made for low-income students with dependants 12 years of age or older who have a disability.
  • have an assessed need that exceeds the Grant for Part-Time Studies (which provides a maximum of $1,200)
  • have borrowed at least $4,000 in Canada Student Loans

Grant for Part-Time Studies

Deadline: You can apply for Manitoba Student Aid (and become eligible for Canada Student Grants!) even if your school has not officially accepted you. However, you must know the name of your school, program, and start and end dates.

Award amount: Up to $1,200 per academic year (August 1 to July 31).

This grant is available for each year of undergraduate studies, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The amount provided under this grant will not exceed your assessed need. For example, if you have an assessed need of $800, you will receive an $800 grant.

Who can apply?

• You are eligible if you:
  • apply and qualify for a Canada Student Loan
  • are from a low-income family as defined by the Canada Student Loans Program (see website for details)
  • are enrolled part-time in a program lasting at least 12 weeks within a 15-week period at a designated post-secondary institution

What will I have to do?

Quintaine Family Farrier Scholarship 

Deadline: Open throughout the year

Award Amount: Up to $5,000

Who can apply?

• Attend a Farrier College within one year of high school graduation
• Be a graduate of a Manitoba High School

What will I have to do?

• Send a one-page essay to quintaine.scholarship@gmail.com Which includes, your contact information, why you want to take this program, previous equine experience, future plans, etc.

• Include a reference from an equine person who has encouraged you
