We offer a variety of extra-curricular, physical activities in a safe, supportive, team environment here at Andrew Mynarski VC Junior High School. Junior high school is the perfect place to explore your passions with caring, kind and Respect-in-Sport certified coaches.
FALL
Cross-Country Running
Athletes participate in 4 WSD sponsored city-wide events during the month of Sept. and generally the first week into Oct. Each week the distances for each run increases by a few hundred metres. Individuals receive a placement at the end of each race. The top 5 racers in each category count towards team points which determine category champions. All events begin at 3:30.

Indoor Soccer
The Inner-City Soccer League approved AMVC for participation in 2016. All games take place annually between January and April. Games are played at the world class, University of Winnipeg Axworthy Health facility and Rec-Plex between 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Each participating team is scheduled to play 4 games. Transportation is provided to and from the University of Winnipeg. Soccer socks are subsidized and available for purchase from the AMVC athletic department. Practices are usually held during the lunch break.
Indoor Track & Field
This popular winter activity helps students develop their running, jumping and throwing skills. We practice most Friday’s and compete 1-4 times inside the James Daly Fieldhouse at the Max Bell Centre on the campus of the University of Manitoba. Students compete against some of the top athletes from across the province. The final 2 meets are considered the Winnipeg School Division city championships.

Badminton
Another well represented sport at AMVC! Students begin to practice in March and compete against other schools during the month of April. This league was formed to introduce players for High School competition, to understand the scoring system and learning the laws of this game.
Bowling
Each year, the Manitoba 5-pin bowling association offers Junior High schools an opportunity to participate in a province-wide, weekend competition with prizes and an emphasis on having fun! We usually participate in this opportunity and tend to attract the non-traditional volleyball/basketball/track athlete. Practice times and competition details will be provided at the school level.
SPRING
Soccer
We offer a male and female outdoor soccer programming at AMVC. If our participation numbers allow, there is also a co-ed division in this WSD sponsored activity. Teams usually begin preparing for the season indoors, while waiting for our pitch to dry in April. Games begin in May and usually wrap up with single game, knock-out playoff games in June.

Slo-pitch
This co-ed sport is an introduction to the game of slo-pitch baseball. We seem to attract non-traditional volleyball/basketball/track athletes and begin preparing for the season indoors, while waiting for our diamond to dry in April. Games begin in May and usually wrap up with division-wide, one-day tournament. There is a focus on skill development and socialization for this activity.
Outdoor Track & Field
Our season kicks off with an annual competition for all AMVC students at the Northwood CC (near the track beside Sisler High School) in May. We identify the top performing students and train them for the school division championships. Students who meet provincial standards will participate in the final competition of our season in June. Some students might be asked to join Team Manitoba for Westerns during the summer months.
