The C.S.I. program began as a pilot project in the summer of 2005 to reduce summer learning loss among inner city, elementary school students.

The goal of the program is to engage children at risk for summer learning loss in learning and enrichment opportunities that will help improve their educational outcomes. It also provides the opportunity to enhance employment skills of local youths hired to assist with the program.  Students spend 6 weeks engaged in theme related learning activities that involve field trips to the Children’s Museum, the Planetarium and University of  Winnipeg among other places.  They also have classroom experiences that include science, math, language arts and social studies.  The arts are also a big part of the children’s experience. They may be involved in African drumming, jazz dance, Aboriginal art and culture.

A staff of 10 are hired to teach the children and run the program. They included 5 university students as teachers, 4 local high school students as assistants, as well as 1 John M. King  staff member.

As a cross between summer day camp and summer school, the children have a fun, busy and wonderful educational experience.  There is no cost for this summer program.
