WEEK 3 - I LOVE TO READ MONTH
Week three of 'I Love to Read' month was another success! Classrooms made "reservations" at the 'Reading Cafe' that took place in the library. Tables were set up with various books from around the world for students to "taste" and then write their reviews on a "menu". The ambiance was that of a jazzy cafe, and students were thrilled about checking out the stories from around the world. Some of the popular books were 'Chicks and Salsa", and "The Paper Boat" and "Dona Esmeralda Who Ate Everything!". Students were excited to go back to the classrooms and share all the countries they 'visited'.
WEEK 2 - I LOVE TO READ MONTH
We finished off week two with a very busy Valentine's Day! The library hosted a 'Mini-Metis-Museum' in honour of Louis Riel. Various stations were set up for students to read, learn and interact with some of the items. Students were definitely enjoyed playing the spoons at the 'Music/Dance' station. Students also got to watch a video of the Red River Jig being performed at this station. Other tables were displaying how the Metis used many different types of transportation to get around, including the Red River cart, which students got to take a look at a mini version. They also learned about the Bison hunt and how important that animal was to the Metis and how it was almost gone for good. And of course, there was a table displaying the life of Louis Riel and why we acknowledge him on Louis Riel Day.
Tuesday was another exciting day in the library, as we had guest reader, MLA Cindy Lamoureux drop by and read to a few of our classrooms. It is always a pleasure to have her visit the school and appreciate her dedication to promoting reading to our students. Ms. Lamoureux had the students vote on five different books to read and the resounding, overall top-voted book was, 'Knight Owl', by Christopher Denise. This story is also a Caldecott Honour Book and tells the tale of a tiny, owl who dreams of becoming a real knight. Ms. Lamoureux also gave the students a little insight as to what her job is at the Legislative Building and gave students bookmarks, that has information about the many fossils that can be found in the stonework at the Legislative Building. We thank Ms. Lamoureux for dropping by and sharing her stories and encouraging the value of reading!
Week 2 started off with guest reader, Constable Ainsley. She explained to the students the pieces of equipment police officers carry and why she needs it with her at all times when on duty, even when visiting schools. Even though Police Officers carry a lot of gear with them, the most important thing she said she uses is her words to help deescalate arguments between people. She then read the story, 'The Rainbow Fish', that touched on the topic of sharing with others and friendship. We thank Constable Ainsley for visiting Tyndall Park School and sharing her stories!

BLUE BOMBERS HIT THE BOOKS!

Whew! What a busy week it has been here at Tyndall Park School! We started with our 'Opening Ceremony' and teachers chose the country their students will be learning more about through books and digital resources. On Wednesday, students brought a stuffed animal to read to for D.E.A.R.(drop everything and read). Team members from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers dropped by on Thursday afternoon to share some stories and answer questions from students. One of the books that they read was "The Creepy Carrot", by Aaron Reynolds.
Finally, on Friday, Principal, Mrs. Mospanchuk and Vice-Principal, Mr. Erichsen, read the book, 'A Big Guy Took My Ball!', by Mo Willems. Mrs. Mospanchuk read the story in French, while Mr. Erichsen read the book in English. We talked about how people speak different languages all over the world, and where else in the world they speak French. We also learned some interesting whale facts, thanks to Mr. Erichsen! I LOVE TO READ MONTH 2025
February is 'I Love to Read' month! And we are very excited about all the activities, guest readers and reading challenges that will encourage our students to explore our theme of 'We Are One World-Read Around the World'. Classrooms chose a country that they will spend some time learning and reading about throughout the month and then they will display all they've learned on classroom bulletin boards in the halls. During the last week of February, the students will do a 'Boardwalk Parade' and "visit" other countries via the boards! The best bulletin board voted on by classrooms, will win some extra time in the library! Please click the link to see the calendar for all the exciting things happening!
BOOK FAIR DECEMBER 5TH, 2024
We are pleased to bring a December Book Fair to our students on December 5th (day of Parent/Teacher conferences) from 1pm-7pm.

Welcome to the Tyndall Park School Library! Our first BOOK FAIR will take place in December during the Parent/Teacher conferences, and another may follow in the spring. September 22-28 was 'Banned Book Week' in the library. A display was set up for students to discover some of the books that are banned in other countries but are allowed here in our library. Students were super curious as to what was under the brown, paper bags and surprised by some of the selections. It was very interesting to hear their opinions about the reasons why these books were banned.
