Scholarships and Bursaries

Bursaries
Bursaries are cash awards which are intended specifically to help students pay for their post-secondary education. The main selection criterion is financial need and therefore applicants will likely be required to submit a financial disclosure, however it is important to remember that many bursaries will take other factors into account such as extracurricular activities, academics, leadership ability, and some may even require students to meet specific demographic or geographic requirements. Unlike scholarships, bursaries may not require high academic marks but there is often a minimum average that a student will have to achieve in order to be eligible.
Scholarships
Scholarships are grants of financial aid awarded for the purpose of attending post-secondary, however it's important to keep in mind that there are some that do not have this requirement. It is also important to remember that scholarships generally do not need to be repaid which makes them ideal for students, however as such the selection process is often much more rigorous. There is a natural sequence of steps when applying and the sooner you start, the better your chances of finding something:
- First, do your research! Check internet websites and find information within your school — like making an appointment with our Career Advisor!
- Second, when you find the scholarships you want to apply for you must review the eligibility requirements. Only apply for the scholarships in which you qualify!
- Third, you must compile all required documents including transcripts (if requested) before submitting your completed application. Make sure you start early! There is often a lot of work involved in applying for scholarships, so ensure you give yourself more than enough time to complete it.
