Guidance

My name is Jonathan Claassen and I am the guidance counsellor at Champlain School. 

The goal of the Guidance Program is to support students with their social and academic development.  I will eventually be working in all of the classrooms, using the Strong Start and Strong Kids programs.  This program focuses on social skill development.  I will also be doing small group counselling and individual counselling with students who need extra support.

I am organizing a Champlain School Recess Peacekeeper program this year.  Peacekeepers will be actively involved in helping other students solve conflicts that arise during the recess breaks.  Before peacekeepers begin, they will have to take part in some training sessions where they will acquire the skills needed to help other students work through conflicts.  Peacekeepers will be selected from the grade 4-6 classrooms.
