DMCI The Heart of Volleyball
November 19, 2024
DMCI’s volleyball season has come to an end, and all of our teams have worked tirelessly during this incredible season. With the varsity boys winning the finals against Sisler, and the hard work and progress made by every single one of the teams, DMCI takes pride in these remarkable athletes and coaches that made this season one to remember.
According to one of the JV Boys coaches, this year’s team has included some of the most polite individuals he had the privilege of coaching. The team allowed him to become more involved as a volleyball coach, and, although they did not win, there was great progress in areas such as teamwork, communication, responsibility and respect as young athletes. They also refined their basic skills and technical skills. These athletes had the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the city, and they gave a strong effort throughout.
On November 15th, the Varsity Boys won the division final against Sisler, crowning them champions. We had the chance to interview one of the players, Imran Lam, about his experience throughout the whole season before their game. He shared that he felt like they made a lot of accomplishments as a team, and that despite the ups and downs they experienced, the positives outweigh the challenges. When asked about how he felt about his game on Friday (that they ultimately won), he expressed confidence. Even though Sisler was a strong team from the start of the season.
As for the JV Girls, we gained insight from one of their coaches. She shared that one of their biggest accomplishments was reaching the playoffs. Even though they didn’t win, she believes that the season went as well as it could have. Despite not getting the outcome that they had hoped for, they played the best volleyball when it mattered most, leaving them nothing to regret.
Finally, we heard from some of the players from the Varsity Girl’s team about their experiences this season. Veronica Santos, one of the players, said that throughout this season she grew stronger mentally in the game. As a team, their greatest achievement was “building good chemistry with each other to play well.” She stated that while it was hard to balance both academics and the sport, it was probably one of the best seasons she’s ever had. Through hard work and the encouragement of their coaches, she believes that every single player improved significantly.
Every single one of our volleyball teams has done an outstanding job this year, and we are all proud of them for representing DMCI with excellence in competition.
