Ms. Stieler:

May has been an amazing month, the students have been remarkably busy with their Poetry Unit. They wrote a variety of poems, such as Free Verse, Cinquain, Narrative, among others. We have highly creative students; the goal is to write two poems of each type. It is nice to see the engagement in their writing, and their creativity. For Science, we have been studying weather, we have talked about what is weather, and how it affects the activities we choose. For example, people may have plans to go the beach, and their plans may need to be changed because the forecast states it may rain in the afternoon. So, we will go to a movie and save the beach for another day. The Social Studies projects relates to people that have made permanent changes in society. Some changemakers the students were researching were Jackie Robinson, Lucy Maud Montgomery, Terry Fox, and among others. They all put a significant effort into their research, and they displayed in a pamphlet. The highlight of the month of May was our visit the to Ralph Conner House (54 West Gate). We walked over on a beautiful, sunny Wednesday morning. The students had the opportunity to tour the house and ask questions. The tour was led by ladies who reenacted life in 1917, it was very engaging. The students did an amazing job listening and asking questions. It was an ideal way to extend their learning of what life was like during the war time. Way to go! I hope you and your family have a beautiful summer.
